Civil, Architectural, Structural Department Manager
Brookfield, Wisconsin
The Civil, Architectural, Structural (CAS) Department Manager is responsible for managing the CAS disciplines. This position ensures competent personnel are assigned to CAS projects and expected results are achieved.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Administrative
- Manages CAS operations in accordance with established policies and procedures of the Company, including safety procedures
- Attends Department Manager and Workload meetings
- Prepares for and leads CAS Department meetings
- Reviews accounts receivable, employee time analysis, workload projections, and other business parameters for the CAS Department; takes actions as appropriate
- Oversees department budget
- Reviews and approves time and expense sheets and monitors employee utilization relative to individual target goals
- Approves all project schedules, work plans, and contract budgets for CAS department
Business Development
- In coordination with the Marketing Department, creates and implements business development programs and mentors staff in business development efforts
- Builds and improves external Company image through active participation in targeted organizations and by maintaining strong and close relationships with current and potential clients
- Partners with Marketing to develop materials, cultivate new clients, and write proposals
Project Management
- Performs project engineering work for own projects as needed; prepares project schedules, work plans, and contract budgets
Strategic Initiatives
- Supports the Company’s strategic initiatives, in conjunction with CAS Department staff
Supervisory
- Oversees employment activities for CAS staff members, including hiring, training, corrective action, and termination of employment, consulting with Human Resources as needed
- Participates in quarterly employee performance/professional development discussions, including identification of training and development opportunities
- Provides recommendations for employee classifications and salary adjustments
Technical
- Participates in seminars/webinars and reads industry journals/websites to stay abreast of technological changes
- Maintains current PE or AIA license

Minimum Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering or Architecture
- Valid Wisconsin PE license or AIA certification
- Minimum of ten years CAS experience, preferably in an engineering or architectural consulting firm
- Comprehensive CAS knowledge and broad practical experience, including: project management, construction management, design knowledge, and people management
- Skilled in estimating, planning, decision making, coaching, and quality and safety awareness
- Ability to successfully manage several projects simultaneously, delivering results on time and within budget
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; ability to interact effectively and build long term relationships
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
Physical and Mental Requirements:
Position duties are generally performed within an office environment with some travel to client sites. The employee frequently operates a computer, reads and writes, and interacts with others in person, over the phone, and via other devices. The employee must have the ability to comprehend technical materials and to organize complex tasks. The employee frequently lifts, carries, pushes and/or pulls objects weighing up to 15 lbs.
